The final decision on whether IHR is awarded to an employee will always be made by the pension trustees.  In cases where an independent medical opinion is required, this should be given by an Occupational Health Physician.

Aintree Occupational Health and Wellbeing service are able to provide that type of independent opinion and support your organisation and employees through the ill health retirement process governed by your specific Pension Plan rules.

This support enables informed decisions to be made and gives an independent medical view of an employee's eligibility for ill-health retirement.

What does it involve?
  • An assessment of the health of the individual in relation to fitness to work by the OH Physician
  • Review of all relevant medical information by the OH Physician
  • The OH Physician provides an independent medical opinion on the employee's eligibility for ill-health retirement and, where appropriate, offers support for the application
