Admission and in-patient stay
Planned admissions for investigation or treatment are arranged by our sleep service manager. You will be given an admission date and time to attend the unit.
Please bring a small bag with overnight clothing, toiletries and day clothes.
If you are already using CPAP or ventilation equipment, please bring it in with you, together with your mask and tubing.
You will be given an appointment noting an arrival time for an overnight stay.
When you arrive your details will be taken by the sleep physiologist who will explain the planned procedures.
Sleep studies (polysomnography) may be conducted, involving connection to a number of devices to measure oxygen levels, breathing pattern, heart rate and movement. Sleep patterns may be assessed by electroencephalogram (EEG) and video recording.
Treatments may be given and assessed, using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) with overnight oxygen monitoring and blood oxygen and carbon dioxide measurement.
After initial referral by your doctor, you will receive:
- A sleep questionnaire to complete and return.
- An appointment for a sleep investigation (out-patient or in-patient).
- An appointment for a sleep clinic assessment or treatment.
In clinic you will be seen by one of our specialist doctors or physiologists.
