About this service

The Respiratory Service, based at Aintree’s Chest Centre, diagnoses and treats a wide range of chest and lung disorders.

As one of the largest chest units in the country led by internationally and nationally renowned consultants, our Chest Centre treats many respiratory conditions ranging from acute pneumonias, chronic chest complaints, tuberculosis to lung cancer. The Chest Centre also provides an emergency service for acute chest problems.

The service has a highly skilled and experienced multi-disciplinary team who provide a comprehensive, efficient, personal and above all comfortable service for all patients and their relatives.

The Chest Centre has excellent links to the University of Liverpool Medical School with the centre including a university department and professors and senior lecturers. In addition to this our nursing services are accredited as a Practice Development Unit, a Department of Health supported initiative that recognises the unit’s ability to be an example to others.

These links along with an active role in researching new and improved treatments, mean that our consultants are national and international experts in respiratory medicine. Some patients may occasionally be asked to be involved in such research projects, which will be fully explained and participation is entirely voluntary.

The Team are also very keen to encourage current and former patients/relatives to feedback on how the service could be improved and as such hold the Hot Air Group four times a year where patient representatives, consultants and staff talk through issues and concerns regarding patient care.
