Viju Peter was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2008. He specialises in hip and knee surgery with a special interests in primary and revision arthroplasty, hip and knee arthroscopy, hip problems in the young adult and joint preserving procedures.

Viju Peter was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2008. He specialises in hip and knee surgery with a special interests in primary and revision arthroplasty, hip and knee arthroscopy, hip problems in the young adult and joint preserving procedures.

After completing his Higher Surgical training in the Mersey rotation, he did his fellowship training at Wrightington Hospital and The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham before being appointed as a consultant.

As lead for the hip unit at Broadgreen, he has improved patient outcomes and helped set up the enhanced recovery pathways for joint replacement surgery. He has extensive experience in complex primary joint replacement and revision hip surgery including revision surgery for failed metal on metal hips, periprosthetic fractures and infected joint replacements.

He has been performing hip arthroscopy for many years and is one of the few surgeons in the region who is experienced in doing this procedures. He has a special interest in managing young patients with arthritis. With his colleague from the Alderhey Children’s Hospital, he has set up a joint replacement service at the Children’s hospital and transitional clinics between Alderhey and Broadgreen to provide a seamless patient care for children and young adults with hip problems.

He has a keen interest in research and teaching. He has published several papers in peer reviewed journals and has been an invited speaker at national and international orthopaedic conferences.

He is the Infection Control lead and the NJR lead for the Orthopaedic Department.
