He has been a consultant at Aintree since 2006 after spending six years as a research fellow and then a clinical lecturer at University of Liverpool and Aintree Hospital.

Dr Walker completed his medical training in Nottingham and his speciality training in Merseyside and Cheshire.

He has been a consultant at Aintree since 2006 after spending six years as a research fellow and then a clinical lecturer at The University of Liverpool and Aintree Hospital.

He is clinical lead for the Aintree Bronchiectasis Service, Physiology Laboratory (including cardio-pulmonary exercise testing) and co-lead for the Aintree COPD Service. He works part of his time in the Sefton and Liverpool community respiratory services and works closely with Liverpool and Sefton Clinical Commissioning Groups.

His thesis examined aspects of clinical physiology and exercise physiology, in particular in people with COPD, and his ongoing research includes respiratory physiology and exercise testing, COPD and bronchiectasis. He is an author of the British Thoracic Society Pulmonary Rehabilitation Guideline and Quality Standards and was a member of the National COPD Audit (Pulmonary Rehabilitation) steering group responsible for delivering the 2015 and 2017 national pulmonary rehabilitation audits.

He is an active member of the British Thoracic Society and former Chair of the Education and Training Committee and a member of the national Respiratory Speciality Advisory Committee during this time. He is currently Honorary Treasurer and an Officer of the Society. He was previously secretary of the North West Thoracic Society.
