Congratulations to Steve Honess and Denise Delaney, Aintree’s volunteers of the month for November and December.
Steve has spent the last 10 years helping the hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation team in a bid to give something back for the care they provided to him following his heart attack.
Nicky Lawler, Cardiac Rehab Nurse, nominated Steve for the award and labelled him “an extremely valuable asset.”
Steve draws upon his experiences to help staff conduct rehab classes, giving patients exercises to complete and tips on how to manage their diet, medication and overall wellbeing.
Steve was taken aback when Chair, Sue Musson, who presented the awards, read out his nomination. He said: “I started to choke up hearing all the lovely things the cardiac rehab team had to say about me. I love helping the patients and staff, so to receive this award is the icing on the cake.”
Denise, December’s Volunteer of the Month, has helped staff, patients and visitors in Aintree’s A&E department since November 2017 and also serves as an End of Life Companion.
Her fellow volunteers put her forward for the award for her kindnesses, compassion and commitment. Denise said: “It is a lovely feeling to know you are valued by the people around you, but nothing surpasses the feeling I get when I am helping the ill and injured in my community.”
