Aintree University Hospital currently operates a mix of Number Plate Recognition and pay and display car parking across our site.
We are currently installing Number Plate Recognition across all our car parks, with the work being completed in Spring 2019. Signage in each area will indicate when the new system will come into force before the change is made.
The new system allows easier payment by credit or debit cards, which patients and visitors have asked for, and will also enable payment in all areas by an app, once the system is fully rolled-out.
Aintree University Hospital's site currently has over 3,000 on-site car parking spaces for patients, visitors and staff, including blue badge spaces across the site.
Our carparks can be very busy, particularly during visiting times. If you are able to use public transport you may wish to consider this option as an alternative to driving.
Please do not park anywhere other than a designated visitor or patient carpark space to avoid causing an obstruction to emergency vehicles, and incurring an Excess Charge Notice.
Car parking charges
In order to ensure we can continue to provide sufficient and accessible parking to visitors, Aintree has a charging system for parking.
These charges apply to all vehicles including motorbikes:
• Up to 30 minutes – free, to enable drop offs and collection
• 30 minutes to 1 ½ hours - £3.00
• 1 ½ hours o 2 ½ hours - £4.00
• 2 ½ hours to 3 ½ hours - £4.50
• Over 3 ½ hours - £5.50
Short-stay car park charges
• Up to 30 minutes – free
• 30 minutes to 1 ½ hours - £3.00
• Over 1 hour and 30 minutes - £10
Payment machines for barriered car parks, including the Multistorey Car Park (MSCP), can be found at each entrance to the Multistorey Car Park (MSCP), and on the link corridor to the hospital.
A machine is also located in Main Reception and also at the exit to Car Park 1.
All of these machines have the ability to accept notes (not £20 notes) and give change. In addition all but the machine located on the link corridor will accept debit cards.
The pay and display car parks on the old hospital site have a number of pay and display ticket machines conveniently located. Please note these machines do not issue change and take coins only and accept 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p and £1 coins.
Free car parking and concessions
Free parking is offered to patients receiving cancer treatment and any patients who require regular, lengthy and prolonged visits.
Patients will qualify if they visit the hospital at least once a fortnight, for more than 3½ hours and for a period of more than six months.
These concessions have to be authorised by ward or clinic managers.
Relatives and visitors can obtain a weekly ticket for unlimited parking at a cost of £17.50 per week.
This can be purchased from the Multistorey Car Park (MSCP) and Main Reception payment machines. Please follow the instructions on the signage next to the machines.
Please activate the ticket by using it to enter and exit the car park barriers.
For more information, please contact the General Office on 0151 529 3458 / 2642.
Blue badge holders
Marked disabled bays are available for drivers who have a disability and are Local Authority Blue Badge Holders.
Please note that all users (including blue badge holders) are required to pay before exiting our barrier car parks (including the multi storey car park). All other spaces are covered by pay and display machines.
